It will stop the emails coming through. A few might slip by but you can report them as spam and it will go into the spam folder and delete as it is received with future emails. Another thing I do is create an account that I religiously use only for email from friends. I never use that email for contests, or websites I visit requesting me to register on their website. That will eliminate them also.
